As well as the light rail technology using the City Class Trams, we have also developed unique technology for light rail infrastructure, which can significantly reduce the cost and lead time of implementing (Light) Rail schemes.
City streets can carry 44 tonne road vehicles on 10.5tonne axles, so are strong enough for tramways without the need for rebuiliding. New tramway and light rail systems need tram tracks laid in city streets. Existing tramways need to replace worn tramway tracks. LR55 can be laid quickly, at about 100metres a week, and one rail at a time, so allowing roads to remain open, with a minimal disruption to give smooth, quiet and long life tracks. LR55 can be laid without the need to relocate under street utility plant, so reduces track cost to about half systems that need a full excavation of roads.
